An American man was deported from Colombia after trying to force his way onto a closed plane because he had missed his flight.
The passenger, whose name has not been released, became irate at Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport on Friday after arriving late for his LATAM flight, according to the Colombian Air Workers Association.
After being told he could not board flight 4090 to Cartagena, he allegedly attacked the staff and walked across the boarding bridge and approached the closed aircraft.
A shocking video filmed by a passenger on board showed the crazed passenger kicking the door to be let in.
“Don’t you dare,” he told a worried flight crew member. “Just stay calm and breathe.”
An American citizen was deported from Colombia on Friday after trying to kick down the door of a closed LATAM flight at Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport. The passenger, whose name has not been released, allegedly arrived late for his flight to Cartagena and tried to force his way onto the plane before being arrested.
An employee at El Dorado International Airport in Bogota, Colombia, followed an American passenger after he bypassed security protocols and walked across the boarding bridge before attempting to break down the door of a LATAM plane.
An airport worker could be seen in the background waiting for police help to arrive as the passenger paced back and forth and then hit the plane window.
She continued to kick the plane door and then directed her anger at kicking a wall with her open-toed sandal.
After another series of kicks at the plane door and nearly breaking a control panel, he walked to the window and shouted, “I want in.”
His strange behavior went even further: he knelt down and begged, “I want to come in, please,” while holding his passport and boarding pass in one hand and knocking on the window with the other.
An American passenger lost his temper and kicked a wall on the boarding bridge while trying to break down the door of a LATAM plane after being told he could not board the flight because he had arrived late.
The passenger pressed his face against one of the plane’s windows as he begged to be let in.
The man was eventually detained by police, airline staff and security and taken to an immigration office.
During the process he attacked one of the agents and was subsequently deported.
“This disruptive passenger initially attacked ground staff after being informed that the flight had already closed and that he had arrived late,” Daniel Gallo, president of the Colombian Air Workers Association, said in a statement. “He tried to force his way onto the boarding bridge and, failing to do so, he hit the main door and the windows of the plane.”
Gallo urged the Colombian government to consider enacting stricter laws to prosecute unruly passengers.
“This man had aggressive behavior that put the staff and other passengers at risk, and he also did not comply with travel regulations,” he said. “We continue to call on the National Government and Congress to take urgent and severe measures against these passengers, who are becoming more frequent every day.”
