Australia’s women’s hockey team crushed Great Britain 4-0 and remains undefeated at the Olympics.

The Hockeyroos produced a strong second quarter, scoring twice in less than two minutes and adding two more goals in the final period.

Rebecca Greiner and Alice Arnott converted in the second-period scoring streak, Tatum Stewart scored from the penalty spot and Grace Stewart added another in a dominant display at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir on Monday.

The Australians claimed their second consecutive victory in Paris as Katrina Powell’s team accelerated to defeat the British.

The hard-working Greiner scored three minutes into the second quarter with a reflex backhand.

The chance came from a penalty corner: there was madness in the area with three goal-line clearances before the ball fell to Greiner, who instinctively headed it home.

Just 90 seconds later, Arnott doubled the lead after Penny Squibb’s long aerial pass into the attacking circle was deflected off England goalkeeper Miriam Pritchard.

Olympic debutant Arnott pounced on the rebound and fired a shot with precision and sweetness.

Great Britain rallied in the third quarter but were unable to penetrate Australia’s defence before the Hockeyroos claimed victory in the final quarter.

The Australians were awarded a penalty when Britain’s Laura Roper illegally prevented Arnott from taking another shot.

22-year-old Tatum Stewart stepped up to the penalty spot and scored into the right-side net.

Just nine minutes later, Greiner set up Grace Stewart with a clever pass and the veteran scored with a precise shot that slipped under the British goalkeeper’s leg.

Australia beat South Africa 2-1 in its Olympic opener and will face group matches against the United States, Argentina and Spain.
