Jess Fournier was shocked to find a damaged Despicable Me 4 bookmark

An Australian mother was horrified to find a damaged cardboard bookmark from Despicable Me 4 as a “toy” inside her son’s McDonald’s Happy Meal.

Mother-of-five Jess Fournier was disappointed to find a “ripped-off paper marker” inside the three-nugget Happy Meal she bought for her young son at McDonalds in Heathcote, south Sydney.

He accused McDonald’s of being stingy and questioned: “This has to be a joke, right?”

Ms Fournier criticised the fast food chain in a TikTok video, saying: “You can’t sell that as a toy to a child.”

“So I bought my son a three-nugget Happy Meal tonight,” she said as she opened the meal.

‘I asked for sweet and sour sauce and a toy. Look what was in this box.

‘There’s no sauce, what’s the toy? Gee… Maccas, aren’t you earning enough? It’s like someone plagiarized someone’s free brochure?’

Many viewers agreed that the toy was “absolutely disgusting”, while others recalled similar experiences.

“Maccas is so expensive and horrible now, every time they make it something gets wrong,” one person wrote.

Another noted: ‘Bookmarks are handed out free at the counter in sheets of four.’

A third wrote: ‘Macca’s toys have been crap for a while now… nothing but paper and cardboard toys or books.’

A fourth added: “They’ve removed the plastic toys that children play with and replaced them with absolute rubbish that goes straight into the bin,” wrote another.

However, some also believed that the mother was “overreacting.”

“So you prefer a piece of plastic trash? Maybe you should start thinking about the environment so your kids can enjoy it,” one commented.

Another added: “You can be upset, but also check your order before you leave and don’t overdo it.”

A McDonald's spokesman said the bookmark was not one of the toys on offer at the time.

McDonald’s currently offers a variety of Despicable Me 4 toys as part of their Happy Meals.

However, the scoreboard is part of a separate free promotion.

“This is not one of our Happy Meal toys at this time,” a McDonald’s spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

‘We have contacted the customer to apologise and arrange for some replacement toys to be delivered.’
