Officers were visiting a home on Windridge Way in Kyneton, central Victoria, at 2.30pm on Tuesday as part of an investigation.
A 27-year-old man was arrested before he became ill and unresponsive.
Officers attempted to revive him, but he died at the scene.

In a statement, police said detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the incident with oversight from the Professional Standards Command.
