Before and after: A home hack guru shared how they made their oven look new again by steaming it with a dishwasher tablet to clean the grime

Aussies love a handy trick that can leave a dirty oven looking new without scrubbing.

One home hack guru said placing a dishwasher tablet in a baking dish of water in a hot oven will loosen grease and grime buildup so it can be cleaned “effortlessly.”

The popular blogger, known as Grandma’s tips and tricks online, wowed thousands of people with her impressive results after trying the trick for themselves.

Start by preheating the oven to 100°C and then place one or more dishwasher tablets on a baking sheet or heatproof plate, depending on how dirty the oven is.

Carefully pour boiling water over the tablets until they are submerged, then place them into the preheated oven and close the door.

Leave the mixture in the oven for an hour so that the tablets dissolve; The steam softens the dirt.

When the hour is up, turn off the oven and open the door to let it cool before wiping the inside with a damp cloth or sponge.

Finally, wipe the oven again with a clean cloth to remove any leftover residue and it should be sparkling clean.

Followers were amazed by the results and the “great idea” and were eager to try it in their dirty ovens.

‘I tried this today on an oven long overdue for cleaning and it works!! Absolute magic, I loved it. “I am now the proud owner of a sparkling clean oven,” praised one woman.

‘I’m going to try this tonight!’ said another.

“I used dishwashing tablets to soak my baking dishes. I’m amazed at how they turn out like new every time I’m definitely going to try this in the oven,” wrote a third.

Others shared their own tried-and-tested tricks for cleaning the oven.

‘Make a paste with baking soda and white vinegar, spread the paste all over, cover it with plastic wrap and leave it for as long as possible, preferably overnight. Remove the cling film and clean it, works wonders for me,’ one user explained.

Sprinkle baking soda all over the inside and then sprinkle vinegar over the baking soda until it is saturated. Let it sit for a couple of hours or overnight. “It sure would be a lot cheaper than turning on the oven,” noted a second.

‘I do the same with pots that have burned something. I fill it with water, put a dishwasher capsule in it, let it soak for a while and the pot will be like new,” added one.
