A series of injuries have turned setbacks into nightmares for the San Francisco 49ers as concerns for multiple starters have left them hoping their fortunes will turn around.

That hasn’t been the case for Niners quarterback Brock Purdy, who is reportedly dealing with back pain.

Niners coach Kyle Shanahan broke the news Monday after San Francisco’s 27-24 loss to division rival the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon.

The injury didn’t force Purdy out of the game, as he completed 22 of 30 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing ten times for 41 yards, in the narrow loss.

He did it without his best running back, his best tight end and one of his elite wide receivers, all of whom missed Sunday’s game.

Running back Christian McCaffrey has been ruled out long-term as he continues to deal with Achilles tendinitis.

According to Shanahan, McCaffrey is seeing a specialist in Germany to help him deal with the injury, as images circulated on social media of the running back supposedly waiting for a flight to Munich.

But McCaffrey wasn’t the only one who missed time against the Rams.

Tight end George Kittle was ruled out for Thursday’s game due to a reported hamstring strain, but it’s unclear how long he might be sidelined.

If that wasn’t bad enough, wide receiver Deebo Samuel also missed time with a calf injury after missing practice all week, with the expectation that he’ll be sidelined for “a couple of weeks.”

In place of Kittle and Samuel, wide receiver Jauan Jennings had the best day of his career for the Niners, hauling in eleven receptions for 175 yards and three touchdowns on the day.

Things aren’t much better on the defensive side of the ball for the Niners, either, with top pass rusher Javon Hargrave potentially missing the rest of the season with a torn triceps muscle. According to Adam Schefter.

Hargrave had three total tackles, including one sack, in the game against the Rams.

San Francisco hopes to turn its fortunes around with a home game Sunday against the struggling New England Patriots.
