A young woman who was turned away from an American Airlines flight has shared the unexpected reason why her name ended up on the airline’s no-fly list.
Erin Wright, 24, claimed in a viral TikTok that after trying to check in for an American Airlines flight to New Orleans in June, she was told the airline had banned her.
She said she had to shell out $1,400 for a different flight and was shocked weeks later when American Airlines finally told her why she was blacklisted.
Wright said the airline informed her she had been banned from flying for “having sex with a man on a flight while intoxicated,” which came as a huge surprise.
“I’m a lesbian and I’m 24 years old. Do you see me? Do I have sex with any men? No,” Wright said in the video.
Erin Wright, 24, said she was put on an American Airlines no-fly list for having sex with a man, despite being a lesbian.
Wright was trying to check in for a flight to New Orleans in June when a gate agent informed her she was prohibited from traveling, but did not say why.
Wright said she couldn’t check in for the flight to her sister’s bachelorette party using her phone, so she went to the airport and tried to check in there.
She explained that after arguing with the gate agent, the employee eventually told her she was banned from traveling on the airline, but did not specify why.
“I was like, ‘What?’ because I’ve never done anything. Why did I get banned? Can you tell me?” Wright said.
‘(The gate agent) said to me, “I’m very sorry, it’s an internal security issue. I can’t tell you, but the person on the phone said you should know why.”
Perplexed, Wright said she called customer service, who also refused to tell her exactly why she had been banned.
She said she was directed to a customer relations email address in her search for answers.
Wright said she had no choice but to spend an additional $1,000 for a flight on a different airline and was initially not reimbursed for the $400 she had already spent on the American Airlines ticket.
“I’m really frustrated and I have to spend another eight hours at the airport waiting for my other flight,” she said.
Wright said he had to jump through many hoops to finally get an answer as to why he wasn’t allowed to fly, but he eventually got an explanation.
“I eventually received an email from corporate security saying I had been banned because I was having sex with a man on a flight while intoxicated,” Wright said.
Weeks after her trip to New Orleans, Wright (pictured) said she finally received an email informing her she had been banned for having sex with a man on a flight while intoxicated.
‘It was 12 days and I received many emails from the time I contacted customer relations to the time I actually received a response.’
She remained on the no-fly list and had to file an official appeal.
“I send them a very serious email, but it’s also kind of funny, because I say, ‘I don’t really know how to prove it wasn’t me, except for the fact that I’m literally a lesbian,'” Wright said.
‘I can get you letters from other people telling you that’s the truth.’
Three months later, Wright said her mother contacted American Airlines’ legal department and was eventually taken off the list and refunded $400 for the original flight.
