Cyclist Chloé Dygert has claimed Team USA’s second Olympic medal with a bronze in the women’s time trial. Dygert battled through a rainy and slippery day in Paris and overcame an early fall to take third place in 41:10.70.
Dygert was still receiving treatment on her left leg, which she injured in the fall, before she stepped onto the podium and accepted her bronze medal.
Australia’s Grace Brown won gold in an impressive time of 39:38.24 while Britain’s Anna Henderson took silver in 41:09.83.
Several riders crashed during Saturday’s race, with the slippery Parisian cobblestones bearing the brunt of the fall for competitors.
American triathlete Taylor Knibb, who also qualified for two cycling events, crashed three times before finishing 19th with a time of 43:03.46. Knibb’s race was tough: even her mechanic, when he tried to give her a new bike, had an accident.
Knibb, a rare dual-sport Olympian, will compete in the women’s individual triathlon on July 31.
There are three road cycling races remaining, with the men’s time trials also taking place on Saturday. The men’s road race will be held on 3 August and the women’s on 4 August.
