Boise State had to make other arrangements for running back Ashton Jeanty at Mountain West media days.
The Mountain West Conference will hold media days this week at Circa Resort and Casino. Circa has a strict 21-and-over policy at all of its facilities. Jeanty is 20. He can’t get in.
But that didn’t stop Boise State from finding a way to make Jeanty available for interviews. While kicker Jonah Dalmas and defensive end Ahmed Hassanein do their media interviews on Circa, Jeanty will host events at the Bellagio and the Golden Gate Hotel since none of those properties have age restrictions for entry.
Dalmas and Hassanein had previously been announced as Boise State’s media day attendees, presumably because the team had to make arrangements to bring Jeanty and because both are of legal drinking and gambling age. And you can understand why Boise State wants its star running back to be available for preseason interviews. It’s actually pretty cool.
Jeanty is one of the top running backs in the country heading into the 2024 season. After rushing for 821 yards on just 156 carries as a freshman in 2022, Jeanty took over as the team’s No. 1 rusher in 2023 and had 220 carries for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also added 43 receptions for 569 yards and five receiving TDs.
Jeanty and quarterback Malachi Nelson might be the best RB-QB combination in the Mountain West this season. Nelson, a former USC quarterback and five-star recruit, transferred to Boise State in the offseason. Like Jeanty, Nelson is also under 21 years old. If he were to attend media days, he would also be unable to get into Circa.
