Donald Trump’s allies launched an attack ad against Kamala Harris on Monday morning, linking the vice president to Joe Biden’s policies and accusing her of helping to hide the president’s decline from the nation.
“Kamala was involved,” says the narrator of “Paid the Price,” a 30-second ad from MAGA Inc., a super PAC supporting Trump. “She covered up Joe’s obvious mental decline.”
The ad appeared in the key states of Arizona, Georgia and Pennsylvania just hours after Biden announced he would not seek re-election.
MAGA Inc has spent or booked $123.8 million so far, according to AdImpact, which tracks political ad spending.
This shows how Trump supporters were already preparing for the possibility of Biden dropping out after weeks of pressure that began with his disastrous debate performance.
Trump allies were quick to attack Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek reelection. The first attack ads appeared Monday morning.
Their strategy so far has been to use the same attack lines on immigration and inflation that they developed for Biden, as well as attack Harris for the times she defended the president against accusations that he was no longer up to the job.
“Kamala Harris has lied for years about Joe Biden’s mental condition and America has suffered for it,” said Alex Pfeiffer, a spokesman for MAGA Inc.
Now is the time for her to tell the truth and answer this question: If Joe Biden is unfit for election campaigning, how is he fit for office?
The ad uses Kamala’s own words against her.
“Our president is fit, healthy, tireless, vibrant and I have no doubt about the strength of the work we’ve done,” he says, as a clip of Biden stumbling up the stairs of Air Force One plays.
The narrator then twists the knife, painting Harris as the real instigator of the administration’s policies.
“But Kamala knew Joe couldn’t do the job, so she did it,” the narrator says.
“Look what she did: a border invasion, runaway inflation, the death of the American dream. They created this mess. They… no, Kamala owns this failed record.”
The ad from MAGA Inc, a super PAC supporting Trump, features a clip of President Joe Biden tripping on the stairs of Air Force One, while linking Harris to Biden’s policies.
The Democratic Party has quickly rallied around Harris following Biden’s announcement
Biden made his announcement in a letter posted on social media on Sunday.
The day before, the Trump campaign demanded that Biden step down.
“Joe Biden cannot withdraw from a campaign for president because he is too mentally incompetent and still remain in the White House,” said top Trump campaign officials Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles.
“Biden is a national security threat with severe cognitive impairment and a clear and present danger to every man, woman and child in our country.”
Trump’s top aides are privately delighted by the way Democrats have been forced to change course.
After last week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, when the party rallied around Trump in the wake of the assassination attempt, they are privately delighted that their opponents appear to be in disarray.
