The United States is no longer home to the world’s best burger.
The United States is home to the largest fast food chains, from McDonald’s to Wendy’s, and is also believed to be the place where they were invented.
But a European chain has claimed the title of best burger in the world for 2024, according to the ‘Michelin Burger Guide’.
This is the first time that the award has been given to a restaurant outside the United States. New York’s Pizza Loves Emily topped the list last year, but fell to second place.

The best burger is not even the one from Germany, where many believe their ancestors invented the dish in the city of Hamburg, but the one from Spain.
Hundred Burgers, with four restaurants in Valencia and three in Madrid, has taken first place in the World’s Best Burgers 2024 ranking.
The restaurant’s success is attributed to its 120-day aged beef, which is described as “melt-in-your-mouth,” and its “super-crispy” bacon.
“For us, receiving this recognition is fulfilling a lifelong dream,” said Alex Gonzalez, co-founder of Hundred Burgers, in an interview with Infobae Spain.
“We created the company with the aim of making a burger that would be a global benchmark, and we never dreamed of being chosen as the best burger in the world. It is a great honour.”
They have achieved this after years of research and hard work.
In 2017, González and co-founder Ezequiel Maldjian traveled to New York for a four-day tour of the city’s 15 best burgers.
The trip, which was originally intended to improve the burgers at Gonzalez’s mother’s restaurant, inspired them to open their own burger-focused establishment.
In 2020, Hundred Burgers opened its first location and quickly won the award for ‘best burger in Spain’.
Other top contenders in the burger rankings include Au Cheval, with locations in Chicago and New York, Holy Burger in São Paulo and Funky Chicken Food Truck in Stockholm. Burger & Beyond, from Manchester and London, just missed out on the top five.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, a report named the best city in America for pizza, and it wasn’t a city known for the dish.
New York and Chicago are typically among the best cities for pizza, and Detroit has been in the lead for the past two years.
But Denver, Colorado, is the city that can lay claim to being the best for pizza, according to an exhaustive study that looked at EIGHT measures. See the chart below for their full methodology.
In a nutshell, the researchers took into account the typical price, the number of restaurants and their rating, plus a score called “passion for pizza.”
Among them, Mile High City rose to the top among 50 of the largest US metropolises investigated by Smart Real Estate.
New York also received an unwanted accolade: the most expensive pizzas in the United States, where a large pepperoni costs almost $34.
