Newly elected Prime Minister Anthony Albanese sternly asked the audience to “behave” during his victory speech on Saturday night, and it turns out that one particular member of the crowd sparked the outburst.
KIIS FM radio host Peter Deppeller, better known as ‘Intern Pete’, was attending an election night party at colleague Jackie O’s mansion in Sydney when he realized Albanese had won.
He and producer Pedro Vitola then headed to the Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club to join in the celebrations.
“Pete’s dream was to introduce Albo on stage,” Pedro explained on the Kyle and Jackie O Show Monday morning.
‘But that hadn’t been planned beforehand, had it? “You can’t just show up unannounced,” Kyle said.
“No, he just thought he might be the MC,” Pedro laughed.

Albanese claimed victory for Labor and appeared on stage with MP Penny Wong (left), her partner Jodie Haydon (centre) and her son Nathan (right).
The colleagues had fun at the party, they were allowed to enter thanks to their press credentials and they positioned themselves near where Mr. Albanese was supposed to enter.
“So we push our way through the crowd to get to the front of the stage and Albo comes out.”
“After every little pause Albo had, Pete decided to start a chant of his name that absolutely no one joined in.”
“I’d had a few beers,” Pete told the hosts.
KIIS FM intern Pete caused a stir after repeatedly shouting at the new Prime Minister and provoking his response (pictured).
Pedro then played for the hosts the “moment when Albo had had enough” and told Pete to shut up.
“My fellow Australians… I think you know the name,” Albanese told the crowd on Saturday night.
“I know that at the beginning of the campaign they said that people didn’t know me, but I think they have understood.”
The crowd then cheered, causing Pete to shout again.
‘Can we have some order please? I intend to run an orderly government and that starts here. So behave!’ Albanese responded sternly.
Pedro explained that he was looking “straight at Pete” when he made the comment.
KIIS FM national talent manager Peter Depeller (left) and senior producer Pedro Vitola (centre) were behind Albanese’s outburst on Saturday night (pictured at Vitola’s wedding to partner Patty).
He also played the audio he was recording with Pete where you can hear the rest of his comments.
“I’m Kyle and Jackie O’s Intern Pete, we love you,” Pete shouted to the stage.
The mortified hosts then asked why he had brought them into this.
‘Why did you use our name?’ Kyle asks.
“I think I’m having a panic attack,” Jackie O added.
But the night didn’t end there, Pedro explained that after Albanese left the stage they found a “secret door next to the bathrooms that was open.”
Presenters Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O weren’t too happy that the couple had used their names to get in the door (pictured).
“This door was clearly where the VIPs go, I’ve been with you long enough to figure this out,” Pete said.
So Pete and Pedro ventured through the hallways backstage only to be greeted by Federal Police officers guarding the prime minister-elect.
“I’m Peter, from Kyle and Jackie O,” he tells the AFP agents, dropping the jokes again.
“Get out now before I arrest you,” the officer can be heard telling the couple, who quickly turn around.
‘Ugghh, remember those kids your parents don’t want you to be with because they’re a bad influence? “That’s Pete,” Jackie said.
The pair also went backstage and found Albanese’s dressing room, but federal police stopped them and immediately told them to leave (pictured).
Albanese was sworn in as Australia’s 31st prime minister on Monday, just hours before a trip to Tokyo to meet Quad leaders US President Joe Biden, host leader Fumio Kishida and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The vote count from Saturday’s election has yet to confirm whether Albanese’s party will have a majority.
Richard Marles was also sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister, Penny Wong as Foreign Minister, Jim Chalmers as Treasurer and Katy Gallagher as Finance Minister.
Ministers will run all portfolios until the Labor group can meet next week to establish a full ministry.
The prime minister issued a statement on Sunday night, saying he would use the international summit to discuss his government’s ambitions to tackle climate change and pursue a more regionally focused foreign policy.
