The mother of a baby (pictured) who was seriously injured in an attack by a stranger last month has revealed there is key information police have refused to share with her.

The mother of a baby who was severely burned in an attack by a stranger in a Brisbane park last month has revealed there is key information that police have refused to share with her.

The woman and her son were having a picnic in Hanlon Park in the city’s inner south-east on August 27 when a stranger approached them and allegedly dumped a jar of scalding hot coffee on the boy before running away.

The nine-month-old baby suffered severe burns to his face, upper body and arms and has undergone seven operations at Queensland Children’s Hospital.

The 33-year-old flew out of Sydney Airport on August 31 using his own passport, just 12 hours before police confirmed his identity.

But police have withheld basic information about their investigation from the baby’s parents, including the man’s nationality and where he fled.

“It’s a little frustrating… I’d like to get an update from the police,” said the mother, who asked that neither she nor her son be identified. Brisbane weather on Thursday.

‘I don’t feel safe at the moment because I don’t know what country they’re from, I don’t know what they’re actually doing or what stage of the process they’re at.

“If we get an update maybe we’ll feel a little more secure.”

The mother had previously criticised police for keeping her and her partner in the dark about what was happening.

“They know his name and they know what country he’s from, but they haven’t revealed that to us either, which is extremely frustrating,” she told the Kyle & Jackie O show on Friday.

He said he had been given the impression that revealing the man’s identity would hamper the investigation.

“In some ways, releasing this information would jeopardize the case because they have to work with the country he’s in to extradite him to Australia,” he said.

“I don’t know how it works. Every time they talk to me I don’t understand what they say.

“I just want justice. I want to know all the information but they won’t give it to me.”

After the attack, the suspect fled. To the Apostolic Church of Queensland in Annerley, where he changed clothes and then took a carpool into the town centre.

The baby had his seventh operation on Tuesday and his mother is hopeful he won’t need any more.

She said he is in good spirits, has healed significantly since the attack and is “walking, crawling and laughing.”

“You wouldn’t even notice he was injured like this because he’s so resilient and strong. It hasn’t stopped him from doing anything right now.”

At the latest press conference on September 9, police said they were investigating whether the suspect had been “sleeping rough” at the time of the alleged attack.

A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with medical and other expenses had raised nearly $190,000 by Thursday evening.

Police said there is no new information about the case that can be made public.

“Police are not commenting further due to ongoing investigations,” a police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
