After Stephen A. Smith predicted his favorite team would be one of the worst in the NFL this season, they are one of only five teams left in football that are undefeated.
Smith revealed his embarrassing change of heart during a ‘First Take’ segment on Wednesday, where he listed his top five NFL teams so far this season.
In an unsurprising twist, Smith picked the teams that have not made any mistakes so far in the 2024 campaign as his five favorites.
The team Smith changed his mind about was the Pittsburgh Steelers, whom he ranked No. 5 on his list of the best teams in the NFL.
“What are my Pittsburgh Steelers doing? Have you seen what the Pittsburgh Steelers are doing? Do you see that defense? Do you see that brother TJ Watt? He’s so special,” Smith said Wednesday.
Smith placed his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, among his top NFL teams this season.
A month ago, his opinion of the Steelers sounded very different.
“The Steelers looked horrible on offense. They looked absolutely horrible. I’m very, very disgusted by what I saw,” Smith said in August.
“That’s what really resonates with me. I’m thinking about the fact that you got those three sacks, (Russell Wilson) still has the ball in his possession too much. Because that’s why Sean Payton couldn’t stand him. That’s why Sean Payton kicked him out of Denver.”
“That’s why Denver didn’t hesitate to pry him out of the Mile High City, despite being owed $37.8 million. You have some weapons, but in the end it’s going to come down to the play of your quarterback and what kind of threat he represents.”
“But I look at Russell Wilson and I think, ‘Damn, that’s why the Denver Broncos didn’t want him.’ I don’t want to hear about the calf injury. You’re still holding the ball in your hands for too long. I’m not thrilled.”
Wilson has not played in the regular season, with Justin Fields taking over the starting role and excelling with his new team.
