Steph, LeBron exchange epic one-liner as Team USA opens camp

Steph and LeBron exchange epic line at Team USA camp opener Originally appeared in NBC Bay Area Sports

It’s finally happening: Steph Curry and LeBron James They will play together on the same team this summer.

Not in the NBA, but representing his country with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

It will be Curry’s first time competing in the Olympics and will be 10 years since his last appearance with Team USA.

“It’s about time,” James shouted excitedly to Curry as the two greeted each other before the first day of training camp in Las Vegas on Friday night. “It’s about time! It’s about damn time!”

“We’re going to have some fun with this,” Curry responded.

Curry and James have been teammates in many NBA All-Star Game appearances, but the stakes are a little higher this time.

And with Curry 36 and James 39, this will likely be their last chance to compete together on the world stage and take home the gold.

The Warriors were toying with the idea of pairing Curry and James in Golden State at last season’s trade deadline, though the talks didn’t last long. Warriors and Team USA coach Steve Kerr has been eager to imagine the superstar duo competing on the same team against the best in the world.

“I’ve talked to both of them about this idea of being together after going against each other with so much at stake over the years,” Kerr said during a recent Zoom video call with members of the media. “They obviously fit together really well. I think the idea of Steph playing off the ball and LeBron pushing him in transition is pretty intriguing. Obviously, Steph will play on the ball as well. And LeBron has become such a good shooter. But they’re both so good in so many different areas of the game.

“I think they’re really excited to be competing together for the first time and to have to find, throughout training and friendlies, some nuances that they can really exploit and explore, just to see where they can have an impact on each other. They’re both really, really excited about the idea of competing together.”
