A disturbing video captured the moment a tourist couple was brutally beaten by taxi drivers in the Mexican resort town of Playa del Carmen.

The victims, whose identities are unknown, were allegedly unhappy with the exorbitant fare the driver had charged them after dropping them off near a nightclub over the weekend, Mexican newspaper Excélsior reported.

One of the three taxi drivers could be seen hitting the man with a sign while another approached and kicked the helpless victim.

His partner leaned over him to try to block the blows, but a third driver kicked him repeatedly.

The woman could be heard shouting, “Stop it,” while two other drivers stood by and did nothing to stop the assault.

One of the attackers then approached the couple and delivered multiple blows to the man with a sign while bystanders in the background yelled at them to stop.

Playa del Carmen police had not commented on the incident as of Tuesday.

DailyMail.com contacted the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office for comment.

The attack comes on the heels of the U.S. Embassy in Mexico warning Americans to use caution if visiting the country over spring break.

“Crime, including violent crimes, can occur anywhere in Mexico, even in popular tourist destinations,” the notice says. ‘Travelers should maintain a high level of situational awareness, avoid areas where illicit activities occur, and quickly remove themselves from potentially dangerous situations.

The advisory, which was issued last Thursday, also asked Americans to use caution when visiting “the downtown areas of popular spring break locations, including Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, especially after dark.”

The embassy also warned travelers about the dangers behind using synthetic drugs or fake prescription pills that have caused Americans to get sick or die in Mexico.

Americans were also asked to be very careful not to receive smuggled alcohol.

“Unregulated alcohol may be contaminated, and U.S. citizens have reported losing consciousness or suffering injuries after consuming possibly contaminated alcohol,” the advisory states.
