FOX figures show more Americans tuned into the Euro Cup than the Copa America

With so much football to watch in recent weeks, it was revealed that more Americans tuned into the UEFA Euro Cup than the Copa America this year.

Even though the Copa America is being held on US soil, data shows that the European championship in Germany dominates viewership in all 50 states.

FOX, which hosts both tournaments in its Summer of Soccer, has been a resounding success, with millions of viewers tuning in for both competitions. However, its figures suggest a considerable gap in favour of the Europeans.

FOX figures show that Euro 2024 is averaging more than twice as many viewers as Copa America 2024.

For the quarter-finals alone, FOX’s coverage of the Euro Cup averaged 3.569 million viewers. With all four matches available on the network, the quarter-final match between France and Portugal was the most watched.

Kylian Mbappe’s win over his idol Cristiano Ronaldo had 4.284 million viewers and peaked at 5.7 million for the penalty shoot-out. Meanwhile, the Netherlands’ win over Turkey and England’s triumph over Switzerland on Saturday both exceeded 4 million viewers each.

On the other hand, the Copa América has also been a success, although its audience pales in comparison to the Euro Cup.

The Copa América quarter-finals had an average of 1.668 million viewers, but there were also notable figures such as the 2.144 million people who watched the match between Brazil and Uruguay.

In addition, Colombia-Panama, which is theoretically a smaller match, attracted an average of 1.187 million viewers. Overall, viewership for the Copa America quarter-finals increased by 420 percent compared to the 2021 tournament and by 40 percent compared to the 2016 edition.

Despite having recorded significant increases in audience, the Copa América had approximately half of the viewers
