A $1 million reward has been offered for information leading to the murder of an Indian mother nearly a decade ago, as authorities desperately search for answers to open the case.
Prabha Arun Kumar was found dead on a footpath in Parramatta Park, western Sydney, on March 7, 2015.
The 41-year-old was on the phone with her husband Arun in India when she was stabbed in the neck and Kumar reportedly heard his wife confront her attacker.
The New South Wales government and police on Monday announced a reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer.
Kumar, who lived in Bengaluru with the couple’s daughter, flew to Australia when he heard about his wife’s death.
He was just a few weeks away from returning to India because he missed his family members.
“My wife was the most loving and beautiful soul,” Kumar said at the time.
Prabha Arun Kumar was attacked and murdered in Parramatta while walking home from work in March 2015.
The New South Wales government and police on Monday announced a reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer.
Kumar, who lived about 300 meters from where she was murdered, moved to Australia in 2012 for a project with technology company Mindtree.
Police said they had pursued multiple lines of inquiry and made several public appeals for information, but the case remains unsolved.
Investigators previously ruled out the possibility that the attack was racially motivated.
In the days after the stabbing, then-New South Wales Premier Mike Baird said Indian community authorities would find the killer.
“The people of New South Wales have a very strong affinity for India and its people and I want to assure the people of India that the New South Wales government is treating this investigation with the highest possible priority,” he said at the time. .
