Painter receives double arm transplant from female donor after losing both limbs in bicycle accident in India

A painter who lost both arms in a bicycle accident underwent a successful transplant of both arms.

Raj Kumar underwent a 12-hour surgery on January 19 at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, India.

Doctors reattached her nerves, veins, muscles and skin to the new female arms.

The limbs were donated by Meena Mehta, principal of a school in south Delhi, after she was declared brain dead and died.

The decorator had both limbs amputated after “a train accident when he was riding a bicycle and lost control.”
