The New York Jets announced that defensive lineman Haason Reddick signed a one-year adjusted contract with the team on Saturday morning and is expected to make his season debut on Sunday.
Reddick was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Jets this offseason and was hoping for a contract extension along with the move that never materialized.
After holding out since training camp, the three-month wait for his debut with his new green team appears to come to an end tomorrow when the Jets take on the Patriots. according to ESPN.
Reddick’s resistance to a new contract has cost him more than $10 million.
Reddick would have benefited from more than $2 million each in preseason games and training camp. There was also a $250,000 training bonus and more than $100,000 from minicamp he left on the table. according to Spotrac.
Haason Reddick will finally put on the Jets’ green on Sunday against the New England Patriots
Reddick has sat out the Jets’ first seven regular-season games, losing $791,666 per game, which equates to nearly $200,000 per quarter. That adds up to $5,541,662 this season.
Jets owner Woody Johnson hoped the resistance would have ended sooner, as he believes New York is a better team with a forward of Reddick’s caliber on the field.
Johnson’s last public plea came on Oct. 8, the day he fired former head coach Robert Saleh.
“I hope the young man can come to the team. We would like to have Haason here,” Johnson said. “We would welcome him with open arms. I’ll extend it. And I haven’t talked to (interim head coach) Jeff (Ulbrich), but I think he would feel exactly the same way.”
“So when you get here, you’ll find a very welcome locker room and you’ll be able to fit in perfectly, but you have to get here first.”
“So, Haason, get in your car, drive down 95 and come to the New York Jets, and we can meet you and walk you to the building, and you’ll fit right in and you’ll love it.” here and you will feel welcome. And you’re going to achieve great things with us.’
The Jets enter tomorrow’s clash against New England at 2-5, losing control of the 2024 season with a crowded window to capitalize on 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers’ time at quarterback.
New York has a golden opportunity to start gaining ground in the AFC playoff race by facing one of the worst teams in the league: the Patriots.
Adding Reddick to the team could put less pressure on Rodgers, who turns 41 in December.
