Democrats held a press conference in Milwaukee on Wednesday where they criticized the ongoing Republican National Convention and the choice of JD Vance as Donald Trump’s running mate, focusing on the Ohio senator’s anti-abortion stance.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Biden deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks and Texas Rep. Veronica Escobar were joined by Amanda Zurawski, a woman who nearly died when she was unable to get an abortion and was told she would have to wait after learning her desired pregnancy was not viable and suffering serious health complications.
“I am one of the many women in our country whose life has been put at risk because of Donald Trump and JD Vance’s anti-reproductive freedom agenda,” Zurawski said. “Our freedom has been stolen from us. I am just one of those women.”
Biden’s campaign has been hampered by concerns about President Biden’s fitness to serve since the debate, with some Democratic lawmakers even calling for the president to step aside.
But Biden’s campaign fired back, saying it would continue to make the case and focus on issues like abortion that have been a focus for Democrats since the fall of Roe v Wade.
“A lot of women are experiencing this,” Fulks said. “Our campaign will continue to speak out about these issues.”
