A young worker felt humiliated after her boss sent a company-wide message alluding to her personal health problems.

Riya* has been working at a creative agency as a graphic designer for 10 months, but her relationship with her superiors has always been strained.

The 25-year-old from New Delhi told FEMAIL she was used to receiving unreasonable demands from her bosses, but the “dishonest” message was going too far.

“Tomorrow’s meeting is mandatory for everyone, please don’t message me in the morning or at night. I don’t care if it’s raining or if you have menstrual cramps,” the founder said in the company’s group chat.

Riya suffers from serious health problems that can occasionally affect her ability to work, something she herself was aware of before being hired.

“The comment about period pain was about me,” Riya revealed.

“I have very bad cramps due to thyroid problems and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It is so painful that I tell my employers before signing a contract that I will have a problem once a month, but my boss doesn’t believe me.”

The cruel message is not the first time Riya’s medical conditions have been used against her by her employers.

‘My other supervisor has also used my sick leave during my term to make me feel guilty and force me to work harder and stay longer the next day to make up for it.’

“6pm is not a day off,” his boss wrote. “You had the day off yesterday, so you’ll obviously have an extra workload today.”

Riya said she couldn’t stay after 6 p.m. because she had a class at 6:30 p.m., but her boss told her to finish the work after her class and have it ready before the next workday started.

“She’s always this rude. She refuses to pay overtime, but expects you to start early and finish late,” the graphic designer said.

‘My boss goes completely crazy if you’re not available after work hours.’

But Riya revealed that her boss often ignores her messages when it comes to discussing compensation.

“She stopped responding to my messages for over a week because I asked her to compensate me for work I was doing outside of my position at the company, work she promised to pay me for,” he said.

‘She only responded when I delivered the work and then took all the credit to the client, ignoring that I was ever involved.’
