Dramatic video captured the moment a California liquor store employee pulled a gun on a wild crowd after they surrounded him.
The incident happened shortly after 4:15 p.m. Saturday outside Golden Hours Liquor in the 3200 block of International Boulevard, the Oakland Police Department told DailyMail.com.
The unidentified worker did not appear to fire the gun, but police said they responded to the scene to investigate a “ShotSpotter activation,” a safety technology that detects gunshots.
Officers “found evidence of a shooting,” but no one was injured by gunfire, police said. No arrests were made.
A California liquor store worker is seen pointing a gun at a group of unruly people Saturday afternoon.
The video shows youths hitting and punching the employee just before he pulled out the gun.
The violent moment began when the worker, who was wearing a black T-shirt, had long dark hair and sported tattoos on his arm, had a conversation with a young man wearing a red sweatshirt and who then slapped him in the face.
The employee’s hat flew off his head as another young man slapped him several times.
The employee quickly entered the store, followed by a large crowd of motorcyclists.
He proceeded to grab a gun as the crowd ran out of the store, screaming.
The store employee led the crowd outside before turning around and pointing the gun at the gathering.
He then waved the firearm as the crowd quickly picked up their bikes and frantically fled the scene.
Before the violent moment broke out, the employee had a heated argument with people outside the store.
The employee ran into the liquor store as the crowd followed him.
While some people managed to escape, others stayed near the store as the employee ran with the gun still in his hand and yelled at them.
At one point, he approached a man in a gray hoodie and pushed him onto the sidewalk.
The worker continued yelling and appeared to put the gun away as more people cleared the area.
He then walked to the front of the liquor store, grabbed his hat and yelled at a man wearing jeans, a face mask and a black hoodie.
Another man, wearing a white T-shirt and black pants, stood between the two and appeared to be trying to break up the heated argument.
A separate video posted on X showed a different angle of the heated exchange moments before the employee grabbed a gun.
Officers “found evidence of a shooting,” but no one was injured by gunfire, police said. No one was arrested.
A man in a red hat told the employee, “I’m not stealing, it’s a child stealing and you took care of it.”
—But you’re threatening three bastards —he added.
“I’m not threatening anyone. I said fuck you,” the employee replied.
The young man in the red sweatshirt then asked him: “Why are you pointing guns at children, bro?”
“Did you see me pull out the gun?” the employee asked as he approached the young man.
It is unclear exactly what sparked the heated confrontation.
