Matt made headlines in April when former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he lost his job because he refused to help Matt cover up “sleeping with a 17-year-old.”
“I’ll tell you the truth about why I’m not Speaker of the House,” Kevin said in a talk at Georgetown University titled “How Strong Is Our Democracy?”
“It’s because a person, a member of Congress, wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old girl,” the California Republican continued. “Did he or didn’t he? I don’t know.”
Kevin has long accused Matt of launching the historic impeachment motion that ousted him from the House speakership last year due to an ongoing ethics investigation into his conduct.
Matt responded to the House Speaker’s accusation about X: “Kevin McCarthy is a liar. That’s why he’s no longer Speaker of the House. Ask the 224 people who voted to impeach him.”
