Millions of Australians look set for an early jolt to summer on Monday, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting sweltering temperatures in three major cities.
Brisbane could hit a daytime high of 32C, the BOM said on Monday morning, while Sydney will shrug off its rainy weather to hit a possible high of 29C.
Hot tropical days will likely persist in the Sunshine State’s capital all week, with the bureau predicting thunderstorms and a high of 33 degrees on Tuesday, then highs of 24 on Wednesday and Thursday and 27 on Friday.
Sydney is likely to drop from 29C on Monday to a high of 19C on Tuesday, then 20C on Wednesday and 24C on Thursday.
Darwin is likely to hit 36C, with the top end city sweltering below 36C for the rest of the week.
But while summer will arrive in the Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales, rain and strong temperatures will spread across the south of the country.
Melbourne is forecast to experience rain with a high of 19C, while wet and windy conditions will affect Hobart along with a high of 15C.
Adelaide will be partly cloudy with a high of 20C and Perth will range between 11C and 24C.
