Jose Mourinho has received a huge fine and a one-match ban following his incredible post-match tirade following his team Fenerbahce’s 3-2 win over Trabzonspor on Sunday.
The iconic former Premier League manager has never been far from controversy throughout his career and continues to do so in Türkiye at the helm of Fenerbahce.
Mourinho initially celebrated at the weekend when former Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat scored a dramatic late goal for his team, but then angered the match officials.
Playing the victim after the VAR intervened at several points throughout the match, notably awarding two penalties to the home team, Mourinho mocked the VAR as “man of the match” and said that the decisions made by the referees “smell bad.” “.
The Turkish football association was left furious at suggestions of Mourinho’s bias and has now punished the 61-year-old with a fine of more than £20,000 and a one-match ban.

Mourinho later fumed after the match because the state of refereeing in the Turkish Super League “smells bad.”
Speaking after the match to reporters on Sunday, the Portuguese initially highlighted the actions of VAR Atilla Karaoglan, stating: “Today, the man of the match was (VAR referee) Atilla Karaoglan.
“We didn’t see him, but he was the referee of the match. We don’t want him again. We don’t want him because he smells bad. We don’t want him. We don’t want him on the field, but even less so in the VAR.
‘We play against a system. And playing against a system is the most difficult thing.”
Mourinho further criticized the VAR official for missing several key calls in the first half and insisted Karaoglan was busy “drinking tea” rather than doing his job.

The video received more than 650,000 likes on Instagram in less than 17 hours and is another of the factors that the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) took into account when deciding Mourinho’s punishment.
Fenerbahce coach Mourinho was highly critical of the way Sunday’s match was conducted.
Mourinho became enraged after Trabzonspor player Simon Banza attempted to handle the ball.
In response to the legendary coach, the TFF issued a damning statement warning the Fenerbahce coach against making such comments in the future.
The TFF statement read: ‘In the post-match flash interview and press conference they are evaluated as a whole; The statements in question are contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship, sporting ethics or the concept of fair play, damage the reputation of the TFF, seek to diminish the value of Turkish football, cast a shadow over the impartiality of referees and other match officials, and are therefore, sanctioned with a discretionary fine of 900,000 TL (£20,178) in accordance with article 38/4-a of the FDT for unsportsmanlike statements.’
Mourinho has yet to respond to his latest rebuke and has enjoyed the support of Fenerbahce fans since his sensational tirade that put the refereeing situation in the Turkish Super Lig in the spotlight.
Meanwhile, the former Chelsea, Spurs and Man United boss has had a mixed start in Turkish football with Fenerbahce third in the Super Lig standings and five points behind leaders Galatasaray.
