Jordan Ablett, the wife of Geelong AFL champion Gary Ablett Jr, will speak about the challenges of raising a child with a disability in her new memoir, One Day.

The couple are parents to their five-year-old son Levi, who suffers from a rare degenerative disease that seriously affects his respiratory system.

They have never revealed Levi’s exact illness, but have confirmed that he has a shortened life expectancy.

Mocking the book on Instagram, the mother of three said she shed many tears while completing the memoir and hopes it offers hope to other parents who share similar challenges.

‘I’m so excited to finally share with you all that I’ve been working hard behind the scenes for almost a year, writing my own book!!!’ he said in a lengthy post.

‘I can’t begin to explain how special this feels to me and my family, who have been through all of life’s ups and downs with me, feeling every bump and joy along the way.

“Many tears have been shed while writing this book, both happy and sad, but being able to share my story and hopefully encourage others, has made all the ‘feelings’ worth it.

“I hope that by reading my story, parents of children with disabilities feel less alone, more capable and, if they don’t already, look at their children through a different lens, seeing them for what they are, a treasure! genuine!’

Jordan also thanked his family and close friends in the touching message and ended his participation with a heartbreaking tribute to his little boy and his late mother.

“Last but not least, to our son Levi, who brings us so much joy, and to my dear, missed mother… I love you,” he said.

Jordan and Gary share two other children: two-year-old daughter Grace and one-year-old youngest son Ezra.

Jordan recently spoke warmly of the beautiful bond that forms between Levi, his sister Grace, and his brother Ezra.

“Grace is almost two and a half now and they have a super cute connection and even having Ez, who is now seven months old, it’s nice to surround Levi with kids,” he told The Herald of the sun in March.

While the family appreciates the good times, Jordan acknowledged the increasing complexities that come with Levi’s condition as he grows older.

“Everyone keeps asking how he is and to be honest, it’s pretty much the same,” she shared.

“I feel like we sound a little repetitive, but he’s getting older and he’s growing up, which means there are more challenges coming, but we’re getting there.”

One Day at a Time will be published by Harper Collins on April 2, 2025.
