Guy Sebastian has opened up about his struggles with mental health and weight loss in a revealing new interview.
The 42-year-old singer-songwriter and father of two spoke Tuesday about his battle to maintain a healthy weight since his rise to stardom twenty years ago during the debut episode of the Mental as Everyone podcast.
“I was the fat kid on Idol, they called me the fat kid… I was just a little chubby,” Guy admitted.
“I was pretty unhealthy, I was binge eating (and) my approach to losing weight was pretty extreme and going nowhere.”
He told host Jonathon Moran that “criticism” directed at him, both externally and internally, was behind his unhealthy eating habits.
“I think what I didn’t do was acknowledge it and that applies to a lot of things I’ve had to overcome,” he said.
“I realized that when I ate a lot… it was during times of criticism.”
The Angels Got Me Here hitmaker, who rose to stardom after winning the debut season of Australian Idol in 2003, also spoke about his battles with depression.

“I feel like I’ve been pretty dark in places,” Guy admitted.
“If I had to say what my definition of depression is, I would say that I’ve ticked all the boxes at a certain point in my life.”
She said that when she first entered the spotlight, people in show business never talked about her mental health in public because, she said, they saw it as a “weakness.”
“Now the hometown heroes are talking about it… it’s reassuring that it normalizes (mental health) a little more,” he said.
During the discussion, Guy also talked about his relationship with social media and his fear of being canceled.

“Everyone is the target of popular opinion,” he said.
Guy’s comments come after receiving backlash online. when he claimed to be suffering from exhaustion.
Fans mocked the star after he said he was “tired” of the hard work it takes to be a successful musician.

While some fans jumped to the billionaire’s defense, others were quick to criticize the artist for feeling burned out by the hustle and bustle of the industry.
It all started when Guy commented, “I’m so tired” under a video posted by singer Amy Shark while talking about the social media content she has to post.
He jokingly told his followers not to become musicians before listing all the clips he has to upload to stay relevant, a sentiment Guy claimed to relate to.

Users were quick to respond to his comment, criticizing The Voice coach for his complaints about working hard for his successful career.
‘Good. And for independents it’s like fishing in a barrel right now,” one person wrote alongside the eye-rolling emoji.
‘Then please stay home. “You are unbearable,” said another, while someone else added: “You have bigger problems than having to make some TikToks.”

A third commented: ‘Tired of what?’ while another disgruntled viewer repeated: ‘Are you tired of robbing young talents of their dreams? Cough sofa (sic) Idol 2003.’
While many criticized the musical artist for expressing his fatigue, some fans quickly came to his defense.
One person commented: ‘What’s the label for! (sic) They should do it for you.’
‘Honestly! It’s interesting and comforting to hear you say that,” said another, while a third added: “Me too man. Me too.’
Someone else wrote: ‘I can imagine because I see you on all platforms all the time! We love you no matter what. Take some time offline and enjoy your beautiful family.’
It comes as Guy is set to return to The Voice Australia this year as a coach alongside LeAnn Rimes, Adam Lambert and Kate Miller-Heidke.
The four stars were spotted leaving the Channel Seven Sydney offices together early last month.
