A Georgia school has been placed on lockdown following reports of an active shooter.

Apalachee High School in Winder in Barrow County, 25 miles west of Athens, was placed on strict lockdown Wednesday morning. Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

The school district confirmed reports of shots fired at the school. Atlanta News First.

Georgia State Police told CNN they are responding to an “active scene,” but did not provide additional details.

A source told the outlet that they are treating patients with gunshot wounds related to the incident.

Heavily armed police were seen entering the school as students were evacuated to the football stadium.

At least one person was loaded onto a medical helicopter on a stretcher and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
