- Former Liberal MP accused of sexual crimes against minors
- Rory Amon was brought before the police on Sunday
A former state lawmaker accused of alleged historical child sexual abuse was seen reporting to police after being released on bail.
Rory Amon, 35, was pictured leaving a police station in the northern Sydney coastal suburb of Dee Why on Sunday morning wearing a blue jumper.
The former Liberal MP for Pittwater resigned from the party and parliament on August 30 after being arrested and charged with child sex offences.
He was granted strict conditional bail in Manly Local Court on the same day.
In a statement, Mr Amon denied the allegations and said he would “state my case in court, not in the media”.
The former deputy opposition spokesman for Transport and Roads, Infrastructure and Youth, was elected to the Pittwater seat last year.
He has been charged with five counts of sexual intercourse with someone aged between 10 and 14, two counts of attempted sexual intercourse with a child, two counts of indecently assaulting a child and committing an indecent act.
Following his arrest, New South Wales Police said an investigation was launched in June 2022 following reports of an alleged sexual assault in July 2017.

Following news of Amon’s arrest, state Liberal leader Mark Speakman said he had called for the former MP to resign.
“While Mr Amon is entitled to the presumption of innocence, the criminal trial will take some time to complete and in the meantime the citizens of Pittwater are entitled to have a Member of Parliament who can fully perform their duties in the community,” he said.
Mr. Amon will return to court in October.
