A flight attendant has listed the things she would never do on a plane, and many of them might surprise you.
Destanie from the US revealed how dirty planes really are and encouraged other travellers to follow in her footsteps.
Sharing the tips in a now viral TikTok video, Destanie said he never took off his shoes, always carried disinfectant wipes and regularly brought his own food.
“These are things I would never do since I became a flight attendant,” she said.
Never walk around the plane without shoes
While it is common knowledge, Destanie stressed that passengers should never take off their shoes to walk around the cabin, as the floors are often covered in dirt.
“I always knew airplane floors were gross, but I thought if you had a nice thick pair of socks it would be okay to take your shoes off on the plane. But that’s not the case,” she began.
“These planes are not cleaned thoroughly, they are just cleaned superficially, so these carpets are really disgusting. They probably have traces of urine or other liquids on them.”

She said bathroom floors are often quickly cleaned and not mopped.
“A lot of times I’ll walk into the bathroom and there’s literally urine on the floor because men won’t flush, and then there’s turbulence and urine is everywhere,” Destanie continued.
On one occasion there was feces on the walls after a passenger used the bathroom.
“So be careful,” she said. “I literally wash my hands every 20 minutes or so.”
As a result of touching the surfaces and then her face, she was left with ‘nasty illnesses, sinus infections and two styes on her eyes.’
Destanie said that if she had children she would never let them touch the floor or the walls.

Carry disinfectant wipes with you
While it may seem obvious, it is best to carry disinfectant wipes in your luggage to disinfect the surfaces around you, such as the window and side table.
“A lot of times we don’t have disinfectant wipes, so bring your own wipes and things like that, and wipe down your trays and stuff,” she suggested.
“When they turn those planes around, they don’t clean the trays.”
But this often depends on the airport code and airline standard.
Eat ahead or bring your own food.
Before boarding a flight, Destanie always eats beforehand or brings his own food.
“You can’t rely on these flights to provide you with food, and even if they do have food, often times the options aren’t that great,” he said.
‘When I go to Asia I always carry two cups of noodles in my bag, because on planes there is always hot water.’
Never put salt on airplane food
Destanie also doesn’t recommend adding salt to airplane food, as meals tend to be incredibly salty.
“Taste buds change in the air, so there’s a lot of sodium added to the food they serve on the plane,” she said.
‘Everything on the plane has a lot of sodium, everything. Oh my God, put more salt in it!’

Always use sunscreen and an umbrella.
Finally, Destanie encouraged travelers to always use sunscreen before boarding the plane, as sunlight is much stronger during the flight.
“The damage the sun does to airplanes is really intense,” he said. “I always close the sunshade when the beautiful view disappears,” he said.
