Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law has questioned whether Australia’s ambassador to the United States, Kevin Rudd, will be the best choice in Washington.
Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump and chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, slammed Kevin Rudd after he described her father-in-law as a “traitor to the West” during a conversation with Sky News presenter Erin Molan.
Trump said it would be “somewhat difficult” for the administration to keep Kevin Rudd in Washington if he had not shown signs of a “change of heart” toward Trump.
“It’s not my decision, but I think it would be nice to have a person who appreciates everything that Donald Trump has been through and wants to serve our country at this moment, at this really critical moment in American history,” he said.
“Obviously, that’s a little difficult to accept, and perhaps we would want to elect someone else (for the top US embassy position).”
Trump also directly addressed Rudd’s comments.
“Donald Trump is, of course, the opposite of a traitor to the West; he is literally saving the free world,” he said.
“We had no new wars for the first time in 82 years under his leadership and that is a place the world agrees we want to return to right now.”

When Trump learned of Rudd’s comments in an interview with Nigel Farage in March, he described the Australian diplomat as “not the brightest light bulb” and “disgusting.”
“Donald Trump is a traitor to the West,” Rudd posted on X at the time.
‘Murdoch was Trump’s biggest backer. And Murdoch’s Fox Television also backs Putin. What a rancid betrayal!
In 2020, Rudd called Trump “the most destructive president in history.”
“Drags America and democracy through the mud. “He likes to foster division, not cure it,” he wrote.
‘He abuses Christianity, the church and the Bible to justify violence. All aided and abetted by Murdoch’s FoxNews network in the United States, which feeds this.
