A recent episode of the popular quiz show had fans excited after contestant Grant DeYoung was seen sitting behind the podium instead of standing, leaving curious fans wondering why.

The Arizona native, who works as a grocery store clerk, racked up four wins and $81,203 on the show.

Throughout the rounds, eagle-eyed viewers spotted Grant sitting in a chair, which is a rarity on the show, with most competitors opting to stand behind their podiums.

In an Inside Jeopardy! podcast, producer Sarah Whitcomb explained why Grant was sitting instead of standing, revealing that all contestants have the choice.

‘Fans have noticed that Grant is sitting in a chair during his games. This is something we always offer to contestants,” he shared.

And he added: ‘We don’t ask why. It’s not our business.

‘If you want a chair, we’ll give it to you… There you have it!’

Grant was sitting in a black swivel chair that was adjusted to the same height as the others, allowing him to see over the podium.

Endangered! On last week’s subreddit, a curious viewer asked why Grant was in a chair, and the contestant himself responded.

“They give it to you if you ask. I have some arthritis in my back which makes staying still for that long very difficult,” he explained in a comment on the discussion thread.

‘I wouldn’t expect everyone who shows up for Jeopardy! I don’t want to reveal the reason why they need it, but I don’t mind saying mine.

Last week, Grant revealed that he was hit by a car after finding out he had appeared on the hit ABC show, but he was so excited he didn’t even notice.

The grocery store employee, originally from Prescott, Arizona, told host Ken Jennings that he was involved in a traffic accident at the exact moment he received a text message confirming the news.

“I got off work, got in the car, pulled out my phone, and I was sinking,” he recalled on Wednesday night’s show. “I’m on the verge of tears looking at him, and they hit me and I ran away…”

Ken, stunned, asked: ‘Did a car hit you while you were receiving the text?’

‘There were people who came up to me afterwards (saying), “Are you aware that your car has just been hit?” and I said ‘no’ holding my phone and looking at the message.”

Ken then asked him if he was okay.

“The car needs some work, but I’m certainly fine, thank you,” Grant said.
