A top election data guru revealed a major sign that former President Donald Trump could win the presidential election next week.
Harry Enten, CNN’s senior political data reporter, said a key metric heading into the election in six days is the low number of voters who feel the country is on the “right track.”
In recent polls, only 28 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the right direction.
That’s a major hurdle for Vice President Kamala Harris to overcome, Enten told CNN host John Berman and Kate Bolduan.
“There is not a single moment where 28 percent of the American public thinks the country is on the right path where the party in power actually won,” Enten said, citing every election since the 1980s.
“The bottom line is that if the Republicans win next week, and Donald Trump wins next week, the signs will have been obvious from the beginning,” he said.
He noted that only 28 percent of Americans in polls believed the country was headed in the wrong direction.
“You can’t say they weren’t warned,” he added.
He referenced the terrible poll numbers of former presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, Harry S. Truman and George W. Bush as an example of when the party in power lost elections.
Biden’s low approval ratings, he noted, will also be a drag on Harris’s electability.
“So the bottom line is that Kamala Harris wins. “I’d have to break history,” he said, adding that “Biden’s approval rating is way below sea level right now.”
Enten also reported that Republicans were gaining “large amounts” of voter registration in swing states such as Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania, expanding their leads from 2020 onwards.
“Republicans are putting more Republicans in the electorate, the number of Democrats versus the number of Republicans has gone down,” he said.
“Republicans are putting more Republicans into the electorate, the number of Democrats versus the number of Republicans has gone down,” he said.
Enten said his election data report focused on Trump’s path to victory and that he would continue Harris’ case in a future appearance.
His report seemed to have unsettled Bolduan, CNN’s current co-anchor.
“It’s not even the content, but sometimes what Harry says is really scary,” he responded. “Harry is a very scary man.”
