Cancer-stricken Kate Middleton “doesn’t need Meghan or Harry to comfort her,” a royal expert has claimed.

Sally Bedell Smith insisted the Princess of Wales has enough support from other members of the royal family as she deals with her shock diagnosis.

“She has her parents and a sister, and she is very close to King Charles,” Smith told New York Times star columnist Maureen Dowd.

Kate revealed that she is receiving cancer treatment in an emotional video statement released on Friday, prompting Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to offer you their best wishes for your recovery.

Smith’s comments came after she made headlines for comparing the Duchess of Sussex to American divorcee Wallis Simpson, claiming they were both “very narcissistic, very controlling, very domineering”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are understood to have contacted the Prince and Princess of Wales “privately” last night.

It is not clear if the contact was a phone call, video call or some supportive message. The possibility of Harry flying back to the UK is unknown.

They also issued a statement to Harper’s Bazaar magazine, saying, “We wish health and healing for Kate and her family.”

Kate received a boost of support from her father-in-law, King Charles, who issued a statement expressing his pride in her “courage” and who was diagnosed with cancer just a month ago.

In her statement, the Princess of Wales revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer following “planned abdominal surgery” in January.

She said she had delayed making any public announcement so she and her husband, Prince William, could tell their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

His statement came amid growing speculation about the princess’s whereabouts in the months following her surgery.

Smith said he hoped this would stop further conspiracy theories and allow him to recover.

Meghan was accused of making Kate cry in the run-up to their wedding in 2018, but later told Oprah that it was actually Kate who made her cry.

Tension between the two women came as relations between Prince William and Prince Harry froze.

Kate last met Harry after the Queen’s death in September 2022, when they joined their spouses on a walk in Windsor.

Kate’s revelation followed a statement from Buckingham Palace which revealed that King Charles had also been diagnosed with cancer.

In February, the palace confirmed that Charles had been diagnosed with a form of cancer, other than prostate cancer, which was discovered while the king was being treated at the private clinic in London for an enlarged prostate.

The King has postponed his public-facing duties, but is said to continue working behind the scenes on his red boxes: his state affairs and official documents.

Sharing Charles’ reaction to the shocking news, Buckingham Palace said: “Her Majesty is “very proud of Catherine for her bravery in speaking out as she did.”

“Following their stay together in hospital, HM has remained in close contact with his beloved daughter-in-law over the past few weeks.”

“Both Their Majesties will continue to offer their love and support to the entire family at this difficult time.”
