A bakery worker has offered insight into how ovens work amid intense speculation about how a teenage Walmart employee became trapped inside one.
Gursimran Kaur, 19, tragically died inside an oven in the baking section of the Walmart store where she worked with her mother in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Her death caused widespread confusion about how she became trapped and led many people to reveal that they didn’t even know the ovens existed.
Now, an anonymous American woman has shared a series of clips about tiktok illustrating how the ovens work and taking his followers inside the steel box.
He said the videos have not been filmed inside a Walmart and clarified that he does not know what specific brand of oven was involved in the tragedy.
Gursimran Kaur, 19, tragically died at the Halifax superstore where she worked in Nova Scotia on Saturday night.
An American woman has shared a series of clips on TikTok illustrating how the ovens work and taking her followers inside the steel box.
But he did say that in his experience, most ovens have similar features.
‘There is no emergency switch inside the ovens. “On the inside of the door is an emergency release button, but the button is metal and would be extremely hot to press,” he said.
“I’m not sure about other companies, but we set our ovens to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.”
At his store, he said that ‘the oven doesn’t turn off when it’s opened, it stays on for almost the entire day until we’re done baking everything.’
The woman shared another video that revealed the scale of the oven, pushing a large rack with wheels inside that could hold 15 trays of baked goods.
Even with the shelf, there was still enough space for a person to enter.
The duo began working together at Walmart two years ago, shortly after arriving from India in search of new opportunities.
But the woman said there is little reason for a worker to ever go inside, especially if the oven was already on.
‘We wouldn’t clean the oven when it’s on. The only other reason we would go into the oven would be to pick up parchment paper off the floor,” he said.
It is still unclear how Gursimran Kaur got trapped inside the oven.
A dispatch call first reported by DailyMail.com earlier this week revealed that there was a “female employee locked in a bakery oven.
‘The oven is on. “I’m not sure if the staff can turn it off,” the dispatch officer warned.
Kaur’s mother, who worked at Walmart along with her daughter, made the distressing discovery after conducting a frantic search for Kaur in the store.
Even with an oversized baking sheet inside the oven, there is still plenty of room for a person to fit.
While the exact brand of oven involved in the incident has not yet been revealed, other Walmart stores in the United States are known to have ovens like the one pictured installed.
A colleague noticed a “leak” coming from the oven.
“Imagine the horror her mother experienced, opening the oven herself,” a family spokesperson said in a statement. GoFundMe appeal.
“As you all know, his charred remains were found inside the bakery oven after a few hours.”
Kaur’s mother is reportedly “traumatized” by the discovery.
“The sufferings of this family are unimaginable and indescribable,” the executive of the Sikh Maritime Society said in the appeal.
Kaur has been remembered as a “beautiful girl who came to Canada with big dreams.”
Walmart officials said in a statement: “We are heartbroken and our deepest thoughts are with our associate and his family.” We extend our deepest condolences to those who were closest to them.
“We are also supporting our associates during this incredibly difficult time and have provided them with access to 24/7 virtual care and will provide on-site support, including grief counseling.”
Staff hired to work this week will continue to receive their pay despite the store closures. The store will remain closed until further notice.
