This is the strange moment a paraglider spotted a dog wandering around the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza after climbing up to bark at birds.
In the astonishing images, which have now gone viral on social media, the canine had scaled what was once the tallest structure built by humans in around 4,000 years.
Alex Lang was flying over the 455-foot Great Pyramid, the largest of the three in Giza, Egypt, when he noticed movement at its summit on October 14.
Approaching the small flat space at the top of the brick structure, onlookers were stunned to see that it was a dog wandering around.
Following the surprising discovery at the top of the ancient monument, Lang said the dog had been barking at birds flying overhead when he saw the animal.

The canine could be seen wandering around the top of the pyramid.
Lang’s clip was shared by Marshall Mosher, an adventure athlete, and racked up more than 592,300 likes.
Impressed viewers were quick to leave their opinions in the comments section.
“If he (the dog) urinates there, all of Egypt belongs to him,” said one Instagram user.
Another joked: “Not a dog.” That is the Egyptian god Anubis. He is considered the guide of the dead in the afterlife and the protector of the tombs. That’s why it’s on the pyramid.’
‘I wonder how long it took. “I want you to come down and get some water,” said a third.
It’s unclear if the pyramid-climbing dog was ultimately rescued from his adventure, as the incredible clip ended with the pup still at the monument.
It was also not immediately clear how the little dog managed to get to the top of the giant pyramid, or how long he was there.
After the video circulated on Instagram, a user shared it on X, formerly Twitter, where it received more than 5,000 likes in a matter of hours.
The user wrote: ‘Dog seen on top of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.
Many social media users were impressed by how the small animal had scaled the giant ancient monument.
It is still unknown if the dog was rescued after filming.
Lang was flying over the 455-foot Great Pyramid of Giza on Oct. 14 when he saw movement atop the monument.
‘The man who filmed the incident from his motorized paraglider says the dog was barking at the birds.
“The Great Pyramid of Giza is a whopping 450 feet tall, which means the dog had to take a long walk to the top.”
The dog’s seemingly unassisted ascent sparked more curiosity and amusement on the platform.
One user wrote: ‘That is now your pyramid. He conquered it.’
Another joked: “Sometimes you just gotta climb the highest hill and bark at some birds, man.”
A third added: ‘Those blocks are BIG. It’s a crazy climb for a dog. I’m not convinced.’
Climbing the Great Pyramid of Giza, or any of the 118 Egyptian pyramids, is illegal.
For a chance to see what’s at the top of the landmark, many tourists often take paragliding tours around the structures, but they don’t often see canines up there.
The Great Pyramid of Giza is an ancient wonder that continues to attract millions of tourists around the world.
Built around 2580-2565 BC. During the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, the majestic structure is the largest of the three pyramids of Giza.
Today, the Great Pyramid is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protected and preserved through ongoing restoration efforts.
