Victorian detectives are investigating an alleged attack on a newborn baby.
Detectives from the Dandenong Criminal Investigation Unit are investigating the incident, which saw a newborn baby taken to hospital in a critical condition on Friday.
The baby was discovered outside an address on Gladstone Road in Dandenong North, 27 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s CBD, with life-threatening injuries at around 2.40am.
A 25-year-old woman from a house on that street was also taken to hospital where she remains in police custody.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
The incident comes just a day after Australia was left in shock by an alleged attack on a baby in a Brisbane park.
Queensland Police are working to identify the unknown man (pictured) who was seen fleeing the Brisbane park after the attack.
The nine-month-old baby (pictured) has burns over 60 per cent of his body after a stranger threw scalding hot coffee on him.
A woman and her baby were enjoying a picnic at Hanlon Park in Stones Corner around midday on Tuesday when they were approached by a stranger.
The man is believed to have poured a thermos of coffee on the boy, causing burns to 60 percent of his body, before fleeing the scene.
Detectives have urged anyone with information about the Dandenong incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
