A food critic stumbled upon America’s worst KFC while at one of the country’s busiest airports.
Farley Elliott, SFGate’s Southern California bureau chief, supported a negative review by the outlet Fast company after visiting KFC on the rooftop dining area in Terminal B at LAX this month.
“I almost never recommend LAX to anyone; there is no way I would recommend this KFC to anyone else,” Elliott wrote for Gate of Saint Francis.
He agreed with all of the negative comments Fast Company made about the restaurant and sympathized with the establishment’s past customers.
Fast Company released its KFC LAX rankings less than a week after the restaurant chain closed dozens of locations across the Midwest.
The KFC inside the Bradley International Terminal at LAX is considered the worst KFC in the United States
Farley Elliott, food critic and Southern California bureau chief for SFGate, revealed that his KFC meal at LAX was the worst meal he’s ever had at an airport.
Elliott visited the KFC at LAX inside the Bradley International Terminal after his boss asked him to investigate the claims.
However, the food critic was not a big fan of airport restaurants before his petition.
“Restaurants are often bad simply because they are in an airport,” Elliott wrote.
‘Fried foods and alcohol can make any pre-flight meal semi-appetizing, but even then, expectations are low.’
Once he arrived, he was stunned to see the long queue of travellers waiting to buy KFC at 10am.
He stood in line and slowly prepared to order what he called “one of the worst meals” he had ever had at an airport.
Elliott visited the KFC at LAX inside the Bradley International Terminal after being asked to do so by his boss.
As Elliott waited in line, he witnessed the chaotic workings of the restaurant.
The front office manager said the KFC ticket printer was not working, making for an even more stressful experience as a customer.
There was also only one employee at the cash register the entire time Elliott was there.
The restaurant’s digital kiosk didn’t improve Elliott’s experience either; employees had to help customers with their electronic orders due to shortages of ingredients and items.
“The cyber system also couldn’t alert customers that the dishes were sold out, so they just had to… hope… that they weren’t out of corn yet,” Elliott wrote.
Elliott was finally able to place his order for a two-piece Double Crunch fried chicken sandwich 30 minutes after arriving at KFC, and after spending $15, he discovered that his meal did not include a drink.
He walked over to a rickety table and sampled his hardened chicken strips and ‘lukewarm mashed potatoes’ with hardly any gravy.
Elliott gave the cookie a one-star rating and overall believed her experience was nothing more than a nightmare.
Elliott claimed the table he was directed to with his food was wobbly and he was served tough chicken strips and “lukewarm mashed potatoes.”
Fast Company didn’t hold back in its August 22 KFC ranking release.
The scores were calculated based on a scoring system they created, which took into account the average score from customer reviews and reviews written earlier this year.
Its weighted score was terrible compared to the best KFC restaurant in the US, which only scored -8.60.
A Fast Company representative called the employees “very rude people” and criticized their limited and overpriced menu.
“Eating there made me feel sad. I feel sorry for anyone who has to suffer in this place,” wrote one Google user.
Other KFC LAX customers were just as harsh with their Google reviews, and it currently has a 1.5-star rating based on over 300 reviews.
“I should have listened to the other reviews. This is one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever been to. I love KFC too,” wrote one Google user this week.
Another customer wrote: “If I could give it no stars I would. Worst KFC service I have EVER received.”
