A cruel husband who tied his ex-wife to a bed and lit a firework in her vagina because she refused to take him back has been sentenced to 18 years in jail.
The Ukrainian citizen, identified in court only as Oleksandr S., 36, had tried to win back his ex and persuaded her to visit him in Pilsen.
But according to the Prague Supreme Court, when she refused to move in with him, he carried out a terrifying attack that caused near-fatal blood loss.
The couple, prosecutor Matin Rykl told judges, had sex on their last meeting and when his wife again refused to return, Oleksandr S. took his horrific revenge.
Rykl said: ‘The defendant tied his wife up with duct tape to prevent her from defending herself.
Oleksandr S, 36, from Ukraine, was sentenced to 18 years in prison after lighting a firework in his wife’s vagina after she refused to take him back.
Oleksandr S. had appealed against an earlier ruling by the Pilsen Regional Court.
He was also ordered to pay £20,000 compensation to his ex and will be deported from the country when he is released from prison.
‘He then inserted a firecracker into the victim’s genitals and lit it, although he probably knew that the firecracker could kill the victim.’
The court heard how his wife suffered terrible injuries and massive blood loss and only survived thanks to the skills of surgeons at Pilsen University Hospital.
In harrowing testimony, his wife, who was not identified, told the court: “They threw me on the bed, I was lying face down.”
‘He pulled my panties aside, put the firecracker inside and then lit it.
“There was an explosion, blood started coming out of me. Then he released my mouth and untied me.”
She went on to tell how she begged him to call the paramedics, but he simply threw a rag at her to clean up her blood.
Later, the court heard, he relented and took her to hospital, still bleeding profusely.
The judges rejected Oleksandra S.’s claim that the explosion was an accident.
He said: ‘I was at a birthday party when my wife called to say she had come to visit me.
‘I went home, made a romantic dinner and she took a shower.’
He went on to explain that ‘after the meal, I convinced her to have sex, even though she didn’t want to.
‘She lay down on the bed, I tied her up and put a gag on her and she didn’t resist.’
He added: ‘There was a firecracker in the bag next to the bed, I took it out and pushed it inside.
‘At the time I thought it was funny, but she wanted me to take it off, she was screaming because the gag had come loose.
‘It was dark, I tried to turn on a light with a lighter and the firecracker went off.
“I was in shock and didn’t know what to do. I just stood there. When I tried to take out the firecracker, it exploded.”
Oleksandr S. had appealed against an earlier ruling by the Pilsen Regional Court.
But at a hearing on September 10, judges at the Prague Supreme Court upheld the 18-year prison sentence.
Oleksandr S. was also ordered to pay £20,000 in compensation to his ex and will be deported from the country when he is released from prison.
