Forget carrots: Eating just two handfuls of pistachios a day could improve your vision in old age, according to a study.
Scientists say adding two ounces (57 g) of walnut to your diet can “significantly” improve eye health by increasing our lutein levels.
The antioxidant, also found in lower doses in carrots, kale and spinach, protects the retina against harmful blue light, acting “like sunglasses for the eyes,” the study published in the Journal found. of Nutrition.
Researchers at Tufts University, USA, monitored 36 people aged between 40 and 70, half of whom consumed pistachios daily for 12 weeks.
They showed large gains in the density of macular pigment, which protects the eyes from UV rays, compared to those who did not eat nuts.
