A former private secretary to Prince Andrew is playing a key role in a potential bid for Currys.

Amanda Thirsk, who resigned from her role with the Duke of York almost four years ago, is working in a senior business development role at JD.com, a Chinese online shopping giant surrounding the high street electrical firm major.

Thirsk worked at Buckingham Palace for Prince Andrew from 2004 to 2020 before leaving following his disastrous interview with BBC’s Newsnight.

Before joining the Palace, she worked as a banker.

But sources told Sky News she is now involved in JD.com’s assessment of a potential raid for Currys, which has been the subject of takeover interest from private equity firm Elliott Advisors.
