Audi Q6 E-tron test: Artificial Intelligence, total comfort

The operating system is well developed and very easy to use, but there’s a lot more to offer. And that’s not all. The Edition 1 model comes with an additional 10.9-inch screen for the passenger, which can play YouTube, display navigation or change music. We found this to be novel, but a bit limiting. Navigation, for example, works well, but is pointless when displayed on the main screen next to it.

Then there’s the HUD, which now comes with augmented reality. Part of the “sound and vision package,” a pricey option, it overlays guidance on the road ahead of you, moving as you do, while also displaying the usual HUD functions like speed, speed limit and turn signals.

With driver assistance systems activated, it also displays a “danger red” when you are getting too close to the side of the road, when you need to brake for upcoming speed limits, as well as braking warnings to ensure you don’t crash into the car in front.

With use, we’re sure this all becomes less annoying, but the overall feeling was more overwhelming than helpful. The Audi voice assistant built into GPT Chat could teach you how to use it, but this reviewer would rather turn it off completely and enjoy the pleasant comfort of the ride.

The interior is otherwise a nice place, though there’s a bit too much cheap plastic. The doors in particular feature a large plastic insert from which the windows are controlled, as well as a plastic storage section that looks very out of place. The SQ6’s diamond-stitched Nappa leather seats are very attractive, but the price is not so.

Speaking of which, prices start at £64,200 ($81,200) for the Q6 e-tron and rise dramatically to £92,950 ($117,500) for the range-topping SQ6.

The Q6 and SQ6 e-tron don’t reinvent the wheel, and while they’re quick in a straight line, they’re not as sporty as they look. Where they shine is in effortless ride comfort and class-leading range – which, if we’re honest, is perhaps more important, as it changes the parameters only slightly but safely.
