A plot to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has allegedly been “thwarted,” according to the Ukrainian Security Service.

Two Ukrainian counterintelligence agents were reportedly detained for “plots of [Russian intelligence] “eliminate the president of Ukraine and other representatives of the top military and political leaders of the State.”

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) claimed on Telegram that two colonels were involved in the plot, allegedly “leaking” information to Russia.

SBU investigators allegedly uncovered a long-running plot to closely shadow people under surveillance before attacking a safe house with a “rocket attack.”

“Then they were going to attack the people who remained in the affected area with a drone,” the SBU stated, without providing evidence.

“After that, the Russians planned to attack with another missile, including to destroy traces of the use of the drone.”

The SBU claimed that Russia intended to “eliminate” the head of its own department, Yasyl Malyuk, the head of the State Administration of Ukraine, Kyryll Budanov, and “other high-ranking officials.”

They claimed to have foiled a plot to assassinate Budanov, a key Ukrainian intelligence player, “before Easter.”
