Two people have died and another is fighting for their life in a horror multi-vehicle crash that closed a major city tunnel for hours.
The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Brisbane’s Legacy Way tunnel shortly after 3pm on Wednesday.
A black Audi S3 heading north through the Mount Coot-Tha Tunnel collided with a silver sedan, which in turn collided with a truck.
The Audi driver, in his 50s, and a female passenger in her 20s who was traveling in the sedan died at the scene.
The driver of the sedan was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Heartbreaking photos of the crash show the mangled remains of the Audi and sedan.
One of the vehicles was piled up next to a concrete barrier with several parts of the exterior hanging off the side.
An exhaust pipe that became detached from the rear of the vehicle was among several parts of the car’s interior that were visible from the crash site.
The remains of the vehicles were scattered for several meters inside the tunnel.
Forensic crash investigators spent the night examining the scene.
It is unknown if speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
Acting Queensland Police Inspector Stephen Crabbe described the accident scene as “extensive”.
“Police are appealing for information in relation to a black Audi s3 that may have been traveling northbound on the Centenary Highway through the Legacy Way tunnel,” he told reporters Wednesday night.

The Legacy Way tunnel links the Western Freeway at Toowong, in the east of the city, with the northern hinterland.
Eastbound and westbound lanes were closed for several hours well into the night as commuters returned home from work, causing massive delays.
Investigations are continuing and anyone with information has been urged to contact police.
