Noida:
A seller at a wine shop in Greater Noida was attacked and shot dead by three unidentified youths who demanded liquor from him around 2 a.m. Sunday but were denied, police said.
The incident took place at the licensed wine shop in New Haibatpur village under Bisrakh police station. The deceased have been identified as Hari Om, a resident of Amroha district in western Uttar Pradesh, they said.
“Around 2 a.m., three boys landed at the store, which was closed at the time. However, they went to the back of the store and started banging on a door, demanding to be sold drinks to them. The back opens up in a small residential area. The seller refused their demand, which led to a fight between them,” said Suniti, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida).
“Among those boys, one of them had a country-made pistol, which was used to open fire and a bullet hit the seller, after which the trio fled. By then, the seller’s colleagues had gathered there and rushed Hari Om to a hospital where he died during treatment,” the DCP said.
Suniti said police officers arrived at the scene for inspection after being alerted and an investigation into the matter was initiated.
“The CCTV footage and other surveillance cameras installed at the site and nearby are being analyzed to trace the perpetrators. “We have been able to obtain useful information about the suspect, which is being further developed,” she said.
An FIR is being filed in the case and further legal proceedings, including the post-mortem examination, are being conducted, they added.
