“I won’t consider stopping work altogether,” Klopp said. “But I don’t see myself continuing at the same pace as before at the moment.”

The German, one of football’s most decorated managers, won the Premier League and Champions League during nine illustrious years in charge at Anfield.

Following the USMNT’s elimination in the group stages of the Copa America, DailyMail.com columnist Tim Howard promised to fly to Spain to persuade Klopp to take the United States to a home World Cup in 2026.

The German has not yet directly responded to calls for him to take charge, but did tease fans with a message on social media on July 4.

“It’s the perfect day to think back to my travels with Liverpool to the States… We had a great time and the American fans are electric! Happy 4th of July,” Klopp wrote alongside a selection of photos from the pre-season tours.
