With size 17 shoes and broad shoulders, Tyran Stokes, a 6-foot-7 junior, surely looks like a high school basketball player who will be tough to stop next season.
He transferred from Prolific Prep in Napa to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, wanting to experience regular high school life while playing in the competitive Mission League.
“It’s what I expected, a normal high school, a lot more people,” Stokes said before practicing at Notre Dame’s gym earlier this week. “It’s a big change, but I feel like I’ll be able to get through it and enjoy it.”

Few players are considered better in the U.S. among the class of 2026 than Stokes, who has won back-to-back gold medals playing for U.S. national teams. His physicality, ball-handling and shooting skills make him a nightmare to tackle.
He has a friendly, outgoing personality and already appears to have adjusted to his move in the first week of school. He joins Heritage Christian’s Josiah Nance and Virginia’s NaVorro Bowman Jr. as transfers in a Notre Dame program that includes Zachary White and Angelino Mark from the Southern Section Division 1 champion team.
Notre Dame is scheduled to begin playing winter games in October.
