In 2021, two men were arrested in New York City after attacking Iranian dissident Masih Alinejad in a failed kidnapping attempt.
The FBI said the two Iranian agents planned to kidnap Alinejad, a U.S. citizen, from her home in Brooklyn and take her by boat to Venezuela, a safe haven for Iranian operations.
The conspirators, who remain at large, had also conspired to lure one person in the United Kingdom and three others in Canada to Iran, according to the indictment. All of them had also been critical of Iran.
Among the Trump officials allegedly targeted by the Iranian agent was former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
