The internet has been buzzing lately with successive surprises. Just as fans were celebrating the news of Karthik Subbaraj and Suriya teaming up for an upcoming film, a new update shook the internet. On Thursday, Lokesh Kanagaraj unveiled the first poster of Rajinikanth’s much-awaited project, Thalaivar 171. What’s notable is the deliberate absence of pre-release hype, a strategy that paid off and caught everyone off guard.
The poster featured a monochrome image of Rajinikanth wearing a denim shirt. He is tied to a chain of wristwatches, the color of which stands out among the shades of gray, with a striking clock in the background. The prevalence of watches has sparked speculation, hinting at a possible time travel story Thalaivar 171. Moreover, the inclusion of watches is in Thalaivar 171 has fueled fan theories pointing to a possible connection with Suriya’s Rolex character. Lokesh Kanagaraj shared the poster on X (formerly known as Twitter) and announced that the film’s title will be revealed on April 22. He wrote, “#Thalaivar171TitleReveal on April 22.”

While the rest of the cast remains under wraps, it has been confirmed that Anirudh Ravichander will be teaming up with Rajinikanth again for the project. Renowned action choreographers Anbu-Arivu are also on board, further adding to the excitement surrounding the film. Thalaivar 171 is produced by Sun Pictures.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is simultaneously busy with his project titled TJ Gnanavel Vettaiyanwhich will be released later this year.
